An artist of a certain vintage, Ed Walker has practised throughout his adult life within the corporate world of art and more particularly, journalism.  For those of similar years, you may already have witnessed his eye for detail and exemplary exactitude.  Those qualities led him from apprentice graphic designer, initially working on the now iconic “Jackie”, ultimately to studio managerial positions, leading and guiding huge teams of artists under his charge.  His was a long and loyal career with D. C. Thomson of Dundee.

Ed grew up in Carnoustie, attended school there and worked for D C Thomson immediately he left school from there.  Indeed, he continues to live there and, since retiring, was recently appointed President of the local Art Society.  Whilst art and its production have provided the scenery, there has clearly always been a soundtrack to his world.  Inspired by the ambience of St. Ives after holidaying there, Ed took up his paintbrush and began to pursue a more creative vein some fifteen years ago.  Now working in oils, his first solo show, here at the Gallery, reveals his passion for the musical artists who have inspired him.

From ’The King’ to Amy Winehouse, through jazz, glam rock and reggae (to name but a few of his eclectic favourites), Walker’s collection of thirty portraits reveal a consistent, mastered technique.  His graphic skills hold strong and marked, as his painterly understanding of light leads to a style redolent of pop art.  And yet Ed Walker’s work remains uniquely his own.  His style is at the same time confident yet sincere, dramatic yet true.  Find your favourites amongst his compilation.

This show runs from Friday 5th August 2016 to Friday 16th September 2016.
